Present vs. Current

Present and Current mean existing or happening now.They can be interchanged in many occasions. When using them,however, consider the following tips.

Current suggests a situation that exists now but the speaker may not expect it to last for a long time ,it may be temporarily.

-
The factory cannot continue its current level of production
- Many experts believe that the current recession will not continue for a long time.
-
The current agreement ends on November 22.
-
I can't get on with my my current boyfriend.
- I'm about to loss my current job because of the economic crisis.

Notice that using boyfriend and job with present is not common.

In addition, we can use current while talking about the past:
The then-current fashion item was the miniskirt.

Present is not possible in the same way.

Present vs. Current vs. Existing vs. Present-day

Present
Existing or happening now .

- Are you feeling frustrated in your present job.
- The present chairperson is a woman

Current
Happening or existing ,being done or being used at the present time,of the present time.

- The current situation is very different from that in 1990.
- What's your current occupation?

Existing
Of laws, regulations, arrangements, systems and etc if they are existing, they exist or are used now.

- The new measures are aimed at tightening existing sanctions.
- The facility is open to the new and existing customers.
- All new fashion starts out as a reaction against convention.

Present-day
Things,people,situations exist at the time in history we are now (especially when compared with the way it was in the past.)

- The lecture will trace the depiction of horses from earliest times to present day.
- Even by the present day standards these were present day air crafts.
- Staging Shakespeare to the present day.
- present-day Australia is very different place from what it was when my grand-parents first
arrived here.

Existent
A formal word meaning existing.The word is more common in negative form.

- Their remedy lay within the range of existent technology.
- This carving is believed to be the only existent image of Saint Frideswide.
- Jane began to build her social life which had been non-existent since her marriage.
